Understanding Your PTE Academic Test Score

Your PTE academic result card will display 3 different types of information, namely:

  • Test Taker’s personal information with photo & Test Details
  • Overall Score
  • Skills Profile - A detailed performance

Understanding this information can be a little tricky.

Here is an example of what you will see on your score report:

  • Your personal information
  • Test Taker ID: This is the same ID that was created when you initially register for the PTE Academic exam
  • Country of Citizenship: The candidates country’s citizenship
  • Country of Residence: The country in which the candidate currently resides in.
  • Gender: The gender of the test-taker
  • Email address: The email address provided by the test-taker at the time of registration
  • Registration ID: The ID generated when you book a date for the PTE test. It will be unique for each test.
  • Test Date: The date on which the test was taken
  • Test Centre Country: The country in which the test was taken
  • Registration ID: The ID generated when you book a date for the PTE test. It will be unique for each test.
  • Report Issue Date: The date on which the scorecard was issued
  • Scores Valid Until: how long the scores mentioned in the result card will be valid for (usually 2 years)


Score Reports


Your score report will include both your overall score and a detailed breakdown of your performance in terms of communicative skills (listening, reading, writing and speaking) as well as enabling skill scores which include:

  • Grammar – use of error free complex grammatical structures
  • Oral Fluency – can produce natural speech without hesitation
  • Pronunciation – can produce speech that is easily understood with correct intonation and stress
  • Vocabulary – demonstrates a flexible use of uncommon words and phrases
  • Spelling – error free spelling
  • Written Discourse –produces pieces of writing that are well structured and cohesive

The overall score is an accurate reflection of your overall English language capability. The score takes into account your performance based on all items in the in the exam. The overall score ranges from 10-90 points.

The scores for communicative skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) are based on your performance on tasks that assess these particulars skills. As mentioned before the questions in the PTE exam often assess more than one skill at a time.

Scores for enabling skills (grammar, oral fluency, pronunciation, spelling, vocabulary and written discourse) are also are based on your performance on tasks that assess these particulars skills. Just like the communicative skills, these skills also range from 10-90.
