Since the PTE academic exam is fully computerized and involves no assessment from human examiners, there has been a prevailing rumour that it is somehow possible to hack or cheat during the exam. However, this is simply not true. In this article, we will take a look at the great lengths Pearson goes through to protect the integrity of the PTE test. this is done mainly by enforcing a number of rules and regulations about what is allowed on test day. A great deal of these rules are designed to deter test takers from cheating.
Test Day Procedures
When you arrive at your test center, you will need to provide the test administrator with your ID.
Only your original ID Documents and passport will be accepted, and these must be the same as the ones that you used to register for the exam. other forms of identification like a drivers license or student id will not be accepted. You will not be allowed to sit for the exam if you fail to meet these criteria.
You will also be asked to take a digital photograph and perform a biometric scan of your palm for security reasons on test day. This will be stored in the PTE database in case you register to take the test again. Even if you leave the test room for your ten-minute break during the test, you will be required to scan your palm and provide your passport to enter the test room again.
Your voice signature is recorded at the start of the Speaking module. This is basically your short Personal Introduction recording. This recording is sent along with your score report to any organization you have chosen to share your score with.
Personal Items Are Not Allowed
The rules for what you are allowed to bring into the test center on test day are very strict. You are not allowed to bring any personal items, these include things like, mobile phones, hand-held computers/personal digital assistants (PDAs) or other electronic devices, pagers, watches, wallets, purses, firearms or other weapons, hats (and other non-religious head coverings), bags, coats, jackets, eyeglass cases, books, and/or notes, pens or pencils are allowed in the testing room.
Additional Security Measures
Audio and video surveillance will also be present at all times during the exam.
Any attempt to meddle with the system will be viewed as malpractice and could result in your immediate expulsion. This also applies if you attempt to leave the test room with copies of the question paper.
The length that some students go to find a way to cheat in the exam or ‘hack it’ always surprises me. They end up wasting valuable time, money, and effort that they could have more wisely used to prepare for the exam.
In my opinion, it would be better and more productive to invest in finding a good PTE teacher to guide you and offer you valuable feedback on your weaknesses and strengths, so that you can effectively prepare for the exam, without needing to cheat in order to score well.
